The Unistrut Trolley System Offers Cost Effective Overhead Mobility

Unistrut Trolley System

What is the Unistrut Trolley System?

Composed of only three basic elements: trolleys, trolley track and trolley track hangers, Unistrut Trolley Assemblies are an easy to install, cost effective system for a variety of overhead mobility applications, including:

  • Barn Doors
  • Sliding / Panel Doors
  • Gas Line Hoses
  • Hospital Equipment
  • Patient Lifts
  • Welding Curtain
  • Athletic Equipment
  • Art Gallery Displays
  • Material Transfer / Hoists
  • and Much More!

Strut channel trolleys are load bearing and capable of supporting a wide range of weights. Unistrut trolley weight capacity ranges from 10 pounds to 600 pounds.

Unistrut Trolleys

There are five basic styles of trolley to accommodate a range of speed and weight requirements, specific to your project.

  1. Unistrut P2749 (and P2749N) 2 Wheel Trolley (Clevis Style)
  2. Unistrut P2750 (and P2750N) 4Wheel Trolley (Clevis Style)
  3. Unistrut P2751 (and P2751N) 4Wheel Trolley (Clevis Style)
  4. Unistrut P2949 2 Wheel Trolley (1/4" Flat Plate Style)
  5. Unistrut P2950 4 Wheel Trolley (1/4" Flat Plate Style)

The P2749- P2751 offer a 12 gauge, u-shaped, clevis design and are lighter duty than the P2949 & P2950, which are constructed out of 1/4" thick steel plate. In general, 2 Wheel trolleys (of similar design to their 4 wheel counterparts) offer less capacity than the 4 wheel trolleys, with the Unistrut P2950, four wheel trolleys, being the most heavy duty trolleys that Unistrut manufactures.

Unistrut Trolley Wheels

The trolley wheel assembly incorporates stainless steel bearings, which require no lubrication, making them maintenance free. **Nylon Unistrut wheels, for light-duty applications, are also available for some models and have the added benefit of noise reduction. However, nylon wheels cannot support as much weight as standard metal wheels can.

Unistrut Track

All Unistrut rollers are for use with 1-5/8" wide Unistrut Track with a minimum depth of 1-5/8". In order to use the Unistrut Trolley with our most popular channel profile: Unistrut P1000, which is 1-5/8" x 1-5/8" strut channel, trolley track hangers must be used, as bolting through the channel would inhibit movement of the trolley along the inside of the trolley track.

Unistrut Hangers

Unistrut P1834 and P1834A channel trolley supports serve to keep the channel slot open so the trolley can run freely back and forth. It acts as a "saddle" of sorts so the trolley can run underneath and not hit the bolt that is connecting the channel to threaded rod drops. There are two options which each offer different Unistrut weight ratings - Unistrut P1834 with a design load of 1,200 lbs., and the wider Unistrut P1834A with a design load of 2,500 lbs.

Trolley Installation

In addition to using trolley track hangers (non bolt-through installation method), deep strut (which is strut that is greater than 1-5/8" depth) can be used for bolt-through installations, or back to back channel (such as P1001) can be used, in conjunction with Unistrtut fittings, as alternate mounting options. Check out our YouTube video below for more on the various mounting options for the Unistrut Trolley System.

**Curtain sliders (Unistrut P5349) are still available, although not listed in the current General Engineering catalog.
